How to be Happy is a short simple book for young children and beginner ESL reader, promoting values of appreciation and giving, and can be used as an early reader. The book is perfect for building confidence in reading with only 25 words most of which are simple words. This book also teaches kids ten important life lessons and there are exercises at the end which can be used for classroom life lessons/health education or home school exercises.
Each lesson is introduced by an animal with a name that uses alliteration, eg Gerty Goat, Wally Walrus. These animals are a feature of Free Kids Books’ life lessons sight words series. All books are available in Creative Commons – CC-BY-NC, as a pdf download, read online, and in an editable form too – which allows users to build on this resource, create lesson materials or even new resources to share. Editable books can be a good way to teach older children editing, formatting, and writing skills, to create their own books in the same style, please do share them with us if you do!

Note – these books are created using open office draw, since for picture based books this format works much better, images and text can be interplayed on each page and don’t scroll. OpenOffice is a free program available at https://www.openoffice.org. The font used is open dyslexic – also available free here https://opendyslexic.org/download.

cool
I enjoyed creating this series, and, reading it with the kids, I think it really works. Simple, clear, yet important messages.
yes, the kids loved the idea that they can do things to make them happy. the language is suitable and the drawings are nice. They also loved the female animals because I have twin girls 🙂
